Abe Zain
Abe has been a member of MITES since 1985, in which he has volunteered and served as RAO of region 16 as well as the Scholarship Raffle Chair for the annual convention.
Raised in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, Abe graduated from Annapolis High School there and continued his post-secondary education through Henry Ford Community College and Northern Michigan University, where he has earned an associate degree in Drawing and Design, two bachelor degrees in Drafting and Secondary Education, as well as his Vocational Secondary Education Certification.
Utilizing his collective
education and skills,
Abe was a teacher for
17 years with the
Sault Area Public
Schools, teaching the
subjects of Technology
Education, Drafting, Metals, Graphic Arts, Woods, Machining Math, and Blueprint Reading. Dedicated to his district, Abe has since become Secondary Assistant Principal, a position he has held for the last 5 years. He is also the team mentor for the first Sault Public Schools robotics team, helping them become so successful that the team qualified for the national competition its rookie year. Skills USA is another organization that has gained his support as he has served as an advisor for the last 6 years.
Rightly noticed for all his various service to Technology Education, Abe has received many awards during his educational career, including the MITES Service award, the 1997-98 Upper Peninsula Assistant Principal of the Year award, the 1998 Michigan Assistant Principal of the Year award from the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP), the 1999 National Assistant Principal of the Year award from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and the 1999 McDonalds Assistant Principal of the Year award.
In between all the above-mentioned accomplishments, Abe finds time to run an online photography business specializing in sporting and special events, as well as stay happily married to his wonderful wife of 20 years, who is also a teacher at the Sault Area Career Center.
